Understand International Delivery, Customs Clearance, Duties, and Taxes

When buying from China with CNshopper, your items are first shipped to the CNshopper warehouse in China. After warehouse processing, QC review, parcel submission, and shipping payment, your parcel is arranged for international delivery.

International delivery may involve multiple stages, including export processing, international transit, customs clearance, local courier handover, and final delivery.

This page explains how delivery and customs work, what fees may apply, and what you should know before shipping your parcel.

How International Delivery Works

After you submit your parcel and pay the international shipping fee, CNshopper helps arrange delivery through available shipping routes.

A typical delivery process may include:

Items arrive at the CNshopper warehouse
Buyer reviews QC photos
Buyer submits parcel for international shipping
Parcel is packed and measured
Available shipping methods are shown
Buyer chooses a shipping route
Buyer pays international shipping fee
Parcel is handed to the logistics provider
Parcel leaves China
Parcel enters destination country
Customs clearance is completed
Parcel is handed to local courier
Parcel is delivered to the recipient

Delivery time and tracking updates may vary depending on the selected route, destination country, customs process, and local courier.

Delivery Time Is an Estimate

Estimated delivery time is provided for reference only.

Actual delivery time may be affected by:

Shipping route
Destination country
Customs inspection
Local courier speed
Weather
Holidays
Peak shopping seasons
Address accuracy
Product category
Carrier delays
Logistics disruptions

CNshopper cannot guarantee an exact delivery date because international shipping involves customs authorities, carriers, and local delivery partners.

We recommend choosing your shipping method based on both estimated delivery time and route reliability.

Customs Clearance

Customs clearance is the process where your parcel is reviewed by the destination country’s customs authority.

Customs may check:

Parcel contents
Declared value
Product category
Import restrictions
Duties and taxes
Required documents
Recipient information

Some parcels clear customs quickly, while others may take longer if additional review or information is required.

Customs decisions are made by local customs authorities, not by CNshopper.

Duties, Taxes, VAT, and Local Fees

International parcels may be subject to import duties, taxes, VAT, customs fees, or local charges depending on your destination country and selected shipping route.

Possible charges may include:

Import duty
VAT or sales tax
Customs processing fee
Local delivery handling fee
Brokerage fee
Remote area fee
Other government or carrier-related charges

Whether fees apply depends on your country’s import rules, parcel value, product type, and shipping method.

Buyers are responsible for understanding and complying with the import rules of their destination country.

DDP and DDU Shipping Routes

Some shipping routes may include tax handling, while others may not.

DDP Routes

DDP means Delivered Duty Paid.

With a DDP route, certain duties or taxes may be included in the shipping arrangement, depending on the route description and destination country.

DDP routes may help reduce the chance of paying additional customs fees upon delivery, but they do not guarantee that customs will never request information or review the parcel.

DDU Routes

DDU means Delivered Duty Unpaid.

With a DDU route, duties, taxes, VAT, customs fees, or local charges may need to be paid by the recipient when the parcel arrives in the destination country.

If you choose a DDU route, you should be prepared for possible customs charges.

How to Choose a Shipping Route

Before selecting a shipping method, review the available route details carefully.

You should compare:

Shipping cost
Estimated delivery time
Tracking availability
Weight and size limits
Product restrictions
Tax or duty notes
Destination country support
Insurance availability, if offered
Route stability

The cheapest route is not always the best choice.

For high-value, urgent, fragile, or sensitive products, you may want to choose a route with better tracking, clearer customs handling, or more suitable parcel protection.

What Can Cause Customs Delays?

Customs delays may happen for many reasons.

Common causes include:

Parcel selected for inspection
Incomplete recipient information
Incorrect shipping address
Product category review
Declared value review
Import duty or tax assessment
Restricted item check
Missing documents
High shipping volume
Holidays or customs backlog
Local courier handover delay

A customs delay does not always mean your parcel is lost.

In many cases, the parcel continues moving after customs review is completed.

What If Customs Requests More Information?

Sometimes customs or the local courier may request additional information from the recipient.

This may include:

ID information
Tax number
Import declaration details
Payment proof
Product description
Invoice or order information
Authorization for customs clearance

If this happens, please respond as soon as possible.

Delays may become longer if customs requests are ignored or not completed in time.

If you are unsure what to provide, contact CNshopper support with your parcel number and tracking details.

Refused, Returned, or Failed Delivery

A parcel may fail delivery or be returned for reasons such as:

Incorrect address
Recipient unavailable
Unpaid duties or taxes
Customs refusal
Restricted items
Failed customs clearance
Local courier delivery failure
Parcel not collected in time
Import documents not provided

If a parcel is returned, delayed, seized, or refused by customs or the local courier, the final result may depend on carrier rules, customs decisions, shipping route policy, and parcel status.

Additional fees may apply for return, reshipment, storage, or handling.

Restricted Items and Customs Risk

Some products may have higher customs or shipping risk.

These may include:

Branded goods
Batteries
Liquids
Powders
Cosmetics
Food
Supplements
Electronics
Magnetic items
Fragile items
Oversized products
Products with import restrictions
Items with unclear product descriptions

Before ordering or shipping uncertain items, check the Prohibited Items Policy or contact CNshopper support.

CNshopper may refuse or restrict shipment if an item is unsuitable for the selected destination country or shipping route.

Tracking During Delivery

After your parcel is shipped internationally, tracking information may become available.

Tracking may show updates such as:

Shipment information received
Picked up by carrier
Departed from warehouse
Export processing
Departed from China
Arrived in destination country
Customs clearance
Handover to local courier
Out for delivery
Delivered

Some routes update frequently, while others may have fewer updates during international transit or customs processing.

A few days without updates does not always mean there is a problem.

What Should You Do Before Shipping?

Before submitting your parcel, we recommend that you:

Review QC photos carefully.
Confirm the shipping address is correct.
Check whether your items are restricted.
Compare available shipping routes.
Review tax or duty notes on the route.
Choose packaging options carefully.
Check estimated delivery time.
Keep your parcel number and tracking number.
Prepare to respond to customs or courier requests if needed.

Good preparation can reduce delivery issues and help your parcel move more smoothly.

Important Notes

Please review these points carefully:

Delivery time is an estimate, not a guarantee.
Customs clearance is controlled by local customs authorities.
Duties, taxes, VAT, and local fees may apply depending on destination country and route.
DDP routes may include certain tax handling, but customs review may still happen.
DDU routes may require the recipient to pay duties or taxes.
Buyers are responsible for complying with destination country import rules.
Restricted items may be delayed, returned, seized, or refused.
Incorrect address information may cause failed delivery.
International shipping fees are generally non-refundable once the parcel has shipped.
Customs duties, taxes, and local courier fees are usually not refundable by CNshopper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to pay customs duties or taxes?

It depends on your destination country, parcel value, product type, and selected shipping route. Some routes may include tax handling, while others may require the recipient to pay duties or taxes upon arrival.

What is the difference between DDP and DDU?

DDP means certain duties or taxes may be included in the shipping arrangement. DDU means duties, taxes, or local fees may need to be paid by the recipient after the parcel arrives.

Can CNshopper guarantee customs clearance?

No. Customs clearance is handled by local customs authorities. CNshopper may provide shipping support, but customs decisions are outside our control.

Why is my parcel stuck in customs?

Your parcel may be under inspection, waiting for tax assessment, missing information, or waiting for local courier handover. Tracking may pause during customs processing.

What should I do if customs contacts me?

Respond as soon as possible and provide the requested information. If you are unsure what to provide, contact CNshopper support with your parcel number and tracking details.

Are customs duties refundable?

Customs duties, taxes, VAT, and local fees are usually charged by government authorities or local carriers and are generally not refundable by CNshopper.

What happens if I refuse to pay customs fees?

The parcel may be delayed, returned, abandoned, destroyed, or handled according to customs and carrier rules. Additional fees may apply.

Can I change my address after the parcel ships?

Address changes are usually difficult after international shipping begins. Please confirm your address carefully before submitting your parcel.

Why has tracking not updated for several days?

Tracking may pause during international transit, customs clearance, or local courier handover. A few days without updates does not always mean the parcel is lost.
